As a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) and Co-Director of the Dasi-Ziyad Family Institute, along with my husband, Tariq, I’ve worked with hundreds of people, empowering them with healthy relationship skills. We’ve developed several courses for parenting, youth character development and academic enrichment and programs for couples and singles.
Married to a Muslim for 25 years, I’m the mother of ten children, from 15 to 44, who were all homeschooled and breastfed; most attended and graduated some of the top universities in the U.S. I was the salutatorian in high school and graduated from Cleveland State University with a BS in Education.
An avid reader, I’ve read hundreds of books: now I’m an author myself.
Why am I a devotee of Krishna?
Being a devotee of Krsna gives me the chance to serve people and other living beings in the best possible way. Serving Krsna helps me be my best self because I’m engaged in a scientific, practical process to realize who I really am, be happy and help others to be happy.
My mother raised me from childhood to serve God and introduced me to my guru, Srila Prabhupada. I have been inspired by Srila Prabhupada to be a devotee. His compassion, extraordinary sacrifice, wisdom, genuine knowledge of the form, activities and qualities of God, and untiring commitment to fulfilling his guru’s instructions (to spread love of God all over the world) –motivates me to do the same.
How Devotion Guides My Life
Devotion to Krsna makes love a practical reality and makes me appreciate the sacredness and oneness of all life. I try to do everything as an offering to God, whether its helping hundreds of couples have happier relationships, raising my children, participating in many Interfaith activities, writing books or magazine articles, looking out for my elderly neighbors or serving as Senior minister of our local Krsna program. When I teach programs that I’ve co-developed (Parenting for the 21st Century, the Young Pioneer Project, the SELF Healthy Relationship Course, etc.), I try to touch people’s hearts.
